The post-instructional assessment is an performance assessment administered by a tester to a member of the target audience of the intended instruction, the testee. The assessment will evaluate the effectiveness of the instructional materials by evaluating the instructor's ability to 1) set up and test a microphone to record audio 2) record a narrated PowerPoint presentation reading a sample printed script aloud into a microphone 3) save a recorded PowerPoint presentation to a video file format ready for online delivery after instruction has been taken. The tester will provide the testee with a printed set of directions for taking the post-instructional assessment. The testee will be provided with the necessary equipment and materials to complete the post-instructional assessment. Tester will record date and name of testee, observe and record the testee's performance, and record any additional comments/observations on a printed post-assessment evaluation sheet in pencil. The evaluation sheet is a checklist that lists all the necessary steps required to complete the post-instructional assessment.
Instructions for administering Post-instuctional Assessment (for the tester)
For the post-instructional assessment, the person administering the assessment will perform the following:
prepare the learning setting prior to administering the post-instructional assessment
greet the testee and seat them at a desk with a personal computer (this step may be skipped if the post-instructional assessment immediately follows the instruction)
explain the purpose of the post-instructional assessment
explain how the post-instructional assessment will be administered
administer the post-instructional assessment
score the post-assessment evaluation checklist
1. In order to prepare the learning setting prior to administering the post-instructional assessment, the tester will need to do the following:
A. Make sure the necessary equipment and materials for the test are present
desk
chair
personal computer - monitor, keyboard, mouse
USB microphone
printed pre-assessment evaluation test sheet with directions for administering the post-instructional assessment (for the tester)
printed directions for taking the post-instructional assessment (for the testee)
start computer and boot into Win XP operating system (skip this step if the post-instructional assessment immediately follows the instruction).
check MS Office PPT is installed on computer (skip this if the post-instructional assessment immediately follows the instruction).
check Camtasia Studio 7 trail version is installed on computer (skip this step if the post-instructional assessment immediately follows the instruction).
check that microphone has been disconnected from computer (perform this step if the post-instructional assessment immediately follows the instruction).
check that any open windows on the desktop are closed (perform this step if the post-instructional assessment immediately follows the instruction).

E. Place printed directions for taking the post-instructional assessment (for the testee) on desk in direct line of site of the testee (near monitor or keyboard)
Note: Steps C-E may be skipped and material simply handed to the testee if the post-instructional assessment immediately follows the instruction
2. Once the testee is present, greet them and seat the testee in a chair at a desk facing the personal computer (this step may be skipped if the post-instructional assessment immediately follows the instruction).
3. Explain the purpose of the post-instructional assessment to the testee:
The purpose of the post-instructional assessment is to evaluate the effectiveness of the instructional materials by assessing the testee's ability to 1) set up and test a microphone to record audio 2) record a narrated PowerPoint presentation reading a sample printed script aloud into a microphone 3) save a recorded PowerPoint presentation to a video file format ready for online delivery after taking instruction.
4. Explain how the post-instructional assessment will be administered to the testee:
the tester will present the testee with printed directions for taking the assessment prior to taking the assessment
the tester will allow the testee to briefly review the directions before beginning the assessment
the testee will have 60 min to complete the assessment
the assessment is comprised of three main tasks 1) set up and test a microphone to record audio 2) record a narrated PowerPoint presentation reading a sample printed script aloud into a microphone 3) save a recorded PowerPoint presentation to a video file format ready for online delivery
the testee will receive one pt for each step in the process that is performed correctly
the testee will receive zero pt for each step that is missed, skipped, or performed incorrectly
in the testee becomes stuck and cannot proceed, the testee may ask the tester for help on a specific step
if the tester helps the testee with a specific step, the testee will receive zero points for the specific step - however, the testee will receive a point for each step performed correctly after that step
the testee must perform the three main tasks in the specified order
the testee is not required to perform the specific sub steps of the main tasks in order and may "backtrack" to previous steps prior to moving to on to the next major task
if the testee "backtracks" and performs the step correctly, they will receive 1/2 pt for the step
if the testee must backtrack to from one main task to a previous main task to complete a missed or skipped step, the testee will receive zero pt for that step
at the end of 60 min or the completion of the task, whichever comes first, the assessment will be finished
5. Administer the post-instructional assessment
the tester will present the testee with printed directions for taking the assessment prior to taking the assessment
the tester will allow the testee to briefly review the directions before beginning the assessment
the testee will have 60 min to complete the assessment
the tester will observe the testee and evaluate their performance for each step in the three main tasks
the tester will mark an X in the yes column next to each sub step in each of the three main tasks that is performed correctly
the tester will mark an X in the no column next to each sub step in each of the three main tasks that is performed incorrectly (missed or skipped steps are performed incorrectly)
the tester may help the testee if the testee becomes stuck. cannot proceed, and asks for the testers help
if the tester helps the testee with a specific step, the testee will receive zero points for the specific step - however, the testee will receive a point for each step performed correctly after that step
the testee must perform the three main tasks in the specified order
the testee is not required to perform the specific sub steps of the main tasks in order and may "backtrack" to previous steps prior to moving to on to the next major task
if the testee "backtracks" and performs the step correctly, the tester will circle the X in the no column
if the testee must backtrack to from one main task to a previous main task to complete a missed or skipped step(s), the testee will receive zero pt for that step(s)
at the end of 60 min or the completion of the task, whichever comes first, the assessment will be finished
at the completion of the assessment inform the testee the assessment is finished
6. Score the post-assessment evaluation checklist
for each X in the yes column, the testee will receive one pt
for each X in the no column, the testee will receive zezo pt
for each circled X in the no column, the testee will receive 1/2 pt
if step 1.3.7.a is not needed and the testee correctly recognizes and skips this step the tester will mark an X in the yes column and the testee will receive one pt
if the testee performs each of the sub steps under the main substeps in a main task the tester will mark an X in the yes column next to the main sub step and the testee will receive one pt (best way to score this is to mark the sub steps first and go back at the end of the assessment to determine which main sub steps were completed correctly. this includes sub steps that received 1/2 pt)
